define:libration
Word Libration is not in popular use. However, it does exist in all English dictionaries. While we started our idea of name with "Library Revolution", we stumbled upon a more interesting, and official definition of the term Libration.
In the realm of physics & chemistry, libration refers to a specific kind of oscillatory motion. Imagine an object that maintains a fairly stable position but undergoes small, repetitive rotations back and forth. This is libration in action. For example, Water molecules have a tendency to align themselves with their neighbors due to molecular attraction. This alignment isn't rigid; the molecules can still vibrate or oscillate, but their movement is constrained to a certain range. These rapid librations of the H2O molecules contribute significantly to the fluid nature of water.
In the field of astronomy, libration refers to a type of oscillation or swaying motion observed in celestial bodies, particularly satellites like our Moon. Due to libration, the Moon's surface can be viewed from slightly different angles at different times when observed from a specific point on its primary body, Earth. This phenomenon, commonly referred to as 'Lunar Libration' enables us to glimpse the Moon's eastern and western edges, which would otherwise be hidden from view.
